Spherical Dice

Because cubes are frankly overrated, I made spherical dice. This page gives you a tutorial of how I made them and how you could make them yourself.

The CAD model of the die. I modeled it with Onshape. Download it here.

The dice are comprised of a 3d printed sphere with an octahedron cut out in the middle. In the octahedron is a circular weight. The weight falls into one of the 6 corners of the octahedron upon resting, leaving one of 6 specific points on the die facing up. Other shapes inside the sphere can be used to make dice with different amounts of "sides"

The die being 3d printed and a photo of the finished die. The materials around the sphere in the print are supports.

The die was printed on my Bambu Lab A1 (but any 3D printer works). During the print, the weight (a marble) is inserted into the die and the print finishes around it, sealing it in. The numbers are then drawn on with paint markers.

Thank you for reading. Have fun making your own spherical dice and overthrowing the cubic status quo. Return home.
